Deep night was nearing it's end as the two refugees looked for another way out of Alamathea. They had reached the inner city wall a few hours ago looking for an exit, but to no avail.
The wolf trotted in front of Nhadala. Her white canine fur shining silver in the moonlight. Nhadala found herself enraptured in the sight.
Suddenly, there was only darkness in front of Nhadala. Where had the wolf gone? Nhadala spun around in a complete circle. No wolf in sight. Nhadala began to walk forward, looking in both directions for the wolf. She was sent crashing into the stone ground when something caught her foot. Untangling her foot from unveiled her attacker to be an iron grate.
Could this grate have come from the city wall? Nhadala though to herself.
She pawwed her way over to the wall and moved her hands back and forth across it until she came to a small opening. Someone must have pried the iron gate out of it's hole beforehand. How fortunate! Nhadala squeezed through the opening and popped out on the other side.
Early morning had begun it's ascent. The faint brightness of the first tinges of sunlight silhoutted what appeared to be trees. Nhadala had crawled out of the city and into the forest surrounding it. It wasn't much of a forest though. The pollution and activities of the city kept much from growing in these parts. Most of the trees were stunted and scrawny. She was surprised anything continued to grow here.
Nhadala picked herself off of the ground and brushed herself off while looking about. Right in front of her stood the wolf, with it's eyes fixed on her.
Nhadala began to walk to the east, the direction of the rising sun, "I say it is about time we take our leave, wolf, neh?"

The wolf snorted, showing her consent. She looked up as a howl sounded in the distance. She lowered her ears and moved closer to Nhadala. Wolves might be of her kin, but they certainly didnt accept her anymore than the city dogs did. In fact, she was sure she'd be ripped to shreds.
She began to trot off down a moonlit path, hoping the wolves would avoid her and the human girl.

Howls pierced the brightening sky. How strange to hear the wolves howl this early in the morning.
Nhadala saw the wolf's whole body tense at the sound of the yipps. Nhadala supposed this wolf was no longer accepted into the wolf community. Wolves lived in packs like a family, and this wolf with her was quite alone. But then again, the more Nhadala was with this wolf, the more she believed this wolf was no ordinary wolf.
The girl knew the wolves would come no where near the city, so she walked a ilttle ways until she found a clump of fallen trees she could take shelter in.
Nhadala's stomach began to growl. She opened of her satchel and took out some bread and cheese. As she was taking out another hunk of bread, the wolf crawled into the meager haven. Nhadala handed the bread to the wolf, who eagerly grabbed it. The girl finished off her subsistence and then curled up to for a short nap. She hoped to be traveling again when the sun rose into the sky.

The wolf curled up beside her and kept watch. She licked her paw, washing a smudge off her coat. Her eyes caught on the loose cord around her neck, as well as the tiger stone. She narrowed her eyes at the polished stone. It had gotten her here in the first place. It had caused her to be seperated from her original family-whomever they were. She didn't actually remember them...it was very vague on how she'd been born, been raised, everything up until a few weeks ago was blurred, almost grasped, but not quite in focus. All she knew was that the stone was the cause of it in some way. She could never bring herself to take it off and all who had tried had been-she shook off the memories of her moments of unimaginable fury. She hoped Nhadala never tried to take it off.
She had to admit she had grown fond of the girl in the short time they had known eachother. She was her only friend now and she'd do anything to protect her. I'm scared, Njah She prayed to the ancient goddess of the moon. I'm scared of anyone trying to harm her...including me... With that, she laid her head on the ground next to Nhadala and lay there, never sleeping, always watching.
